Advent photo challenge: “Good news”

The #rethinkChristmas photo challenge phrase today is “good news,” and I expect there will be lots of writers out there talking about how the word “gospel” means “good news.”

To the surprise of no one who is familiar with my work, I will not be one of them. Ever the odd one out, I think of something else, and then I try to change your thinking ever so slightly.

I got some good news today. It wasn’t of earth-shattering importance, but I allowed myself to fully enjoy it. When I came in from a full day of Christmas shopping and errand-running, I found a friend had left a full tin of homemade fudge in my kitchen. If that isn’t news to make the angels sing, I don’t know what is.

Yes, I watch what I eat,  and I try to stay healthy, but this is Christmas fudge. Eating it transcends the laws of nature. It can’t possibly weigh my body down, because my spirit is lifted so high. Oh, yes, this is good news, and I am rejoicing!
